Prosecutor blocks lawsuit against Israeli ambassador to Jordan

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The  public prosecutor of the Amman court has blocked a lawsuit filed by a Jordanian woman against the Israeli ambassador to Jordan and five of his assistants, the Jordanian Al-Ghad newspaper has reported.The woman, an employee at the embassy, claimed that some of the embassy’s staff restricted her freedoms and threatened her during a corruption investigation that took place at the embassy.The prosecutor Aqla Abu Zaid justified the decision saying the embassy’s staff enjoys “diplomatic immunity” according to Article 11 of the Jordanian penal code.The case was transferred to the Jordanian Magistrate’s Court as the prosecutor had doubts over the involvement of the embassy’s legal attaché, a Jordanian, in the attack.The woman’s lawyers asserted they are determined to prosecute the assailants, saying “even if putting them to trial is prevented legally on grounds of diplomatic immunity, Jordanian law allows them to be tried based on human rights, given the psychological and moral damage they inflicted on her”.In the complaint, the woman said that on June 6 she was taken by embassy security guards to the fourth floor, which was off-limits to employees and used solely by elements from the Israel foreign intelligence, the Mossad.She said she was held for 24 hours and interrogated on corruption charges the embassy had filed against another employee, a woman with Israeli citizenship.She added that investigators used “all kinds of psychological and moral pressure” on her, including threats to abduct her and take her outside of Jordan to be investigated by the Mossad in Israel.She also said in the complaint that some of her family members were made to appear at the embassy to hand over her personal computer. The assailants threatened that if the complainant did not provide the information they wanted, they would physically assault her family and pin terrorism charges on them./129
